Making sense of search data – a Q&A with Neil Walker...

Neil Walker - Just Search CTO

This week, our chief technical officer, Neil Walker, is in California to speak at Search Marketing Expo – SMX West 2012.

Anybody who is anybody in the world of search and social media marketing will be attending this event to find out how they can stay at the forefront of their industry. So, I thought that now would be a good chance to catch up with Neil about what people can expect from the Technical SEO Track at which he’ll be speaking.

DH: Hi Neil, firstly just to say it’s great to see that you have been asked to speak at such a renowned industry event in the United States and represent Just Search. What are your general hopes and expectations for the event?

NW: The US is a new market for Just Search to enter into and SMX West is one of the largest events globally. I have high expectations for the content which will be delivered and hope to look at the opportunities over in the US.

DH: The session you are speaking at is entitled: ‘Making Data From Google Webmaster Central & Bing Webmaster Tools Actionable’, so is this a focused talk aimed primarily at technical SEO professionals?

NW: This session is aimed at all site owners not just SEOs. Vanessa Fox was part of the original development team at Google, so will offer a good insight into helping businesses online; whereas my approach discusses the ever changing Google and how to use this to generate better exposure.

DH: What do you hope that people will be able to take away from the session?

NW: My talk focuses on forecasting SEO; how marketers and businesses can potentially forecast traffic and income from an SEO campaign, based primarily on Google Webmaster tool data.

DH: That’s enough for now as you don’t want to give all your secrets away. Thank you for your time. It’ll be great to find out all about your experiences at the Search Marketing Expo when you get back.
