Making your articles reader friendly

Reading articles on the internet is not like reading articles in newspapers or magazines. Rather than read your content word for word, as they would with printed media, visitors to your site are more likely to scan the text and pick out aspects that interest them or are relevant to them.

So how can you make the most of this?

There are several steps you can take in order to improve the chances of a reader taking notice of your content.

  • Highlight any keywords in your text.
  • Create sub headings to break up the text.
  • Give information out in list format where appropriate.
  • Keep it simple and restrict your ideas to one per paragraph.
  • Keep your articles concise and don’t ramble on.
  • Use the inverted pyramid method and start your article with a concluding paragraph.

Of course, as well as all this, you need to ensure that your content continues to be relevant, informative and accurate. Well written content will give your site a more professional appearance meaning that readers trust it and are more likely to return.

Always remember that content needs to be adapted to suit the online reader. If you make it easy to read and full of great ideas, you should be hooking the readers in in no time.

One Response to Making your articles reader friendly

  1. I am currently taking journalism courses and the most important point, no matter what course, is to draw in the reader. Get the readers attention and keep their attention. Keep coherence and for each paragraph make sure that the sentences flow and relate to the topic without going off track.

Keep each paragraph related to the thesis or topic statement and make sure you use coherence throughout the article, keep the reader’s interest and write with clarity. Do not expect the reader to know everything about the topic so make sure you write with with clarity.

The article above relates to all of this and it kept my (the reader’s) interest.

Good article that could have been expanded on but was well written none the less.
    Thank You
