Facebook boosts mobile phone internet usage

According to the latest news report, Facebook, the most popular social networking site in the UK, is accessed by a quarter of young people on their mobile phones. CCS Insight, the mobile research firm, recently published a study that indicates that the boost in mobile internet service was because of the social networking site.

Though social networking site MySpace, along with micro-blogging service Twitter and Bebo, are being accessed by mobile internet users, Facebook is presently performing extremely well compared to its rivals.

Matthew Robson, a 15-year-old intern who collected the report, clarifies why Facebook is more popular than Twitter. Usually, teenagers do not use Twitter as they realise that no-one views their profile and so their tweets are useless.

Paulo Pescatore, an analyst at CCS Insight, said that Facebook was the main concern for youngsters, social networking is of great importance and Facebook is truly the king of the hill.

Mobile users in the age group of 16 to 35 years, expressed that along with Facebook, they would love to have BBC’s iPlayer incorporated in their future mobiles. Mr Pescatore also said that the customers expect the services to be provided in a fair manner. With a huge demand for these services, balancing the bandwidth consumption is the only problem that the operators face.
