Facebook video more popular than Yahoo! video

According to comScore figures, Google remains the top place for video thanks to its ownership of YouTube, but there was a change in second spot where Facebook went past Yahoo!

Google’s various sites served 146.3m viewers during August and delivered a staggering 1.9bn viewing sessions, with people spending around four and a half hours on its sites on average.

Facebook had 58.6m viewers over the course of the month with 243m sessions, just slightly more than Yahoo!, which had 53.9m viewers.

Not far behind was Vevo, an online music site which is backed by both YouTube and Universal Music Group. Despite only launching in December, it served 45.5m viewers.

The comScore figures also took a look at video advertising, seeing how many video ad impressions different sites gleaned. Topping the list was Hulu with 790m video ad impressions – 30 per visitor during the course of the month.

Video advertisements actually account for over 10 per cent of the videos that were viewed. ComScore’s figures indicate that 45 per cent of the population of the US were reached by video advertising, witnessing an ad 28 times a month on average.
