Miramax deal close for YouTube

A great many people use Google’s YouTube site in order to keep themselves entertained. Many watch music videos or film trailers via the site, whilst others tune in for interviews with public figures and celebrities and to watch independent videos and tutorials. Given the popularity of the site, it’s little wonder that film and TV companies have shown considerable concern for its effect on the public’s habits.

However, there is always the likelihood that entertainments bosses and internet bosses will reach an agreement to bring the two sides a little closer together. It has been rumoured recently that Google has been in intensive talks with the Miramax movie studio in a bid to secure licensing rights for the films it produces.

If Miramax and Google do come to an agreement, then the latter will be able to show Miramax films on its YouTube video site, thereby scoring a very significant result in the future of entertainment. YouTube will go into competition with other video sites run by Apple, Netflix and Hulu and it will also seek to expand its film rental service.

It remains to be seen whether the rumours will come to fruition as neither company has yet made an official announcement.
