Does optimising for one search engine mean it is automatically optimised for others?

Everyone wants to reach the number one position in all search engines but the big question is, how do you achieve such results?

Through experience and working with lots of sites I have seen many vital differences in the search engines.

You have the 3 majors:

  • Google
  • Yahoo
  • Bing

Generally, most people only optimise for Google, and others may only optimise for Yahoo and Bing due to the competition on Google.

Before coming to a conclusion, we need to analyse each search engine individually. However due to the limited time, I’ll now make an important statement:

Yahoo’s algo is far behind the complex algo of Google, however they are in the same boat.

Live search was there, but now we have Bing. Bing has taken a new route which has never been seen before  in search, and it is very successful so far in catching up to Google, however, the essence of Bing is the same.

Google is still the market leader though, and will be for quite a long time to come.

Google has invested heavily in its search over the years and has been the leader for such a long time; they have the most sophisticated algorithm and so, if you know how to optimise for Google, and do this successfully, your site will more or less be optimised for Yahoo and will also be optimised for Bing!

Where can you find out some more? For Yahoo, use some of the older techniques and read some old blog posts on SEO that were written in 2000, or even before this.

You asked a question in your post title and then wrote a whole load of waffle that in no way answered the question.

    Thanks for the comment Tim!

I understand where you’re coming from however I mentioned in the 2nd to last paragraph that optimising for Google well will ensure your site is optimised well for the other two SEs.

This is the best route to take! Maybe in future the table could change and you may need to optimise more for Bing over Google to include the major search engines.

    Thanks Again!
