Googles Internet Statistics
Statistics are great and now google wants to provide us with them! Google has launched a new service that can tell you a whole range of statistics about the internet from;
“Mobile display spend worldwide is forecast to grow from $281m in 2009 to $849m in 2012.”
to
“On January 26th 2009, more than 76,000 job cuts were announced worldwide in a single day.”
If you have an eCommerce website then you will be happy to know;
“In January 2009, JP Morgan estimated that 2008 worldwide retail eCommerce spending, excluding travel, totaled $438 billion – of which one third ($152m) was in Europe.”
The problem with stats however is that they are only showing historical data, and if its not historical data its a prediction (and nobody publicly predicted the economy going pear shaped!) its great to know that searches for “discount vouchers” increased by 94% between November and December last year but this information isnt going to help capture a future market. The discount vouchers industry as with any of the other industries google will be reporting on will already be dominated in the search results.
In a nutshell, its not going to make you rich but it could win you the worlds geekiest pub quiz!
