Top Yahoo! search terms in 2008

Yahoo! has announced its most popular searches and trends as part of its 2008 year review. The review was conducted through billions of searches, conducted by millions of Yahoo! users around the globe.

I though I would look into Yahoo! Even though Google is considered the most popular, it is always a good idea to gather data from other search engines. Yahoo! stated that the normal search criteria was dependent on current popular trends such as the economy, politics, news stories, Olympians and rising celebrities. Yahoo! also noted that search terms closely followed the credit crunch.

Yahoo’s overall top ten searches are listed below:

1. Britney Spears
2. WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment)
3. Barack Obama
4. Miley Cyrus
5. RuneScape
6. Jessica Alba
7. Naruto
8. Lindsay Lohan
9. Angelina Jolie
10. American Idol

Yahoo also added that the key phrase ‘Britney Spears’ has been the most popular search term for seven out of eight years.
